Most people who have worked or travelled abroad retain special memories of times when they were welcomed into the home of a local person. Those who are thinking of living for a while in another country may be glad to meet nationals of the region before they go.
For the thousands of international students who come to Britain each year, opportunities to meet people and experience the way of life away from the campus are rare, but when they occur they make a lasting impression.
Since 1987, an ever-changing network of volunteer hosts has offered hospitality for a one-off day or weekend visit, or at Christmas, through the HOST scheme. HOST is a not-for-profit organisation which is supported by the Foreign Office and many academic institutions across the UK.
If you could help make an adult student feel more at home, HOST could introduce to you someone from a country you know, or who would broaden your understanding of another part of the world.
