About Us

What is HANDS AROUND THE WORLD?

HANDS AROUND THE WORLD is a UK-registered charitable trust which seeks to help vulnerable children around the world, encouraging enthusiastic and well-prepared short-term volunteers to offer practical help, skill-sharing, support and friendship. We have sent over 400 volunteers since we started in 1994, from the UK to the other countries shown in the map above.

'Our hands around the world may get grubby and blistered, they may need to hold a sick child or comfort a grieving parent, they may sometimes just be asked to hold the hand of another, but there is always more to these hands than practical help alone.'

The charity responds to specific needs in two ways:

- It sends groups of volunteers on projects lasting about a month to places of need such as hospitals, schools and community centres.

- It also sends individual skilled volunteers to similar places of need, particularly in a training role, hopefully followed by further input a short time later.

The projects aim to show love in action; to help people work side by side; to relieve suffering; to achieve something lasting and worthwhile; to broaden the experience of the volunteers and to develop lasting links between communities.

On their return we encourage our volunteers to continue their interest and work with us as we seek to build brighter futures for needy and vulnerable children.

Although many of the people who run HANDS AROUND THE WORLD are Christians, volunteering is open to all, regardless of belief, and we operate an Equal Opportunities Policy.

Copies of our Equal Opportunities Policy, Child Protection Policy, Health and Safety Policy, and our Annual Accounts and Report are available from our office on request.

HANDS AROUND THE WORLD is proud to be a member of BOND, UKOWLA, People in Aid and InterHealth.

We adhere to the Good Fundraising Code.

'GIVING A HAND, NOT A HANDOUT'
